KEY WEST BOTTOM FISHING -
George trailers his Mako 284, MARC VI, to Key West,
where he joins up with long time pal Captain Mark Schmidt.
The friends run some 30 miles west of Key West (fla-keys.com) to The Marquesas Keys, to fish numerous
rockpiles between 15- and 30-feet of water to the west of
this fabled Atoll. The
action is off the charts with big mangrove snapper,
grouper and even mutton snapper! The show stopper is a 50-plus pound barracuda that severed 3/4
of a 15-pound grouper just a few feet away from the
landing net – and
smack in front of the underwater camera! This is a
must-see episode for light tackle fanatics who like to
take on big fish! The
MARC VI docked at Murray Marine on Stock Island, while
George and crew stayed at the Westin Key West Resort &
Marina.

CAPE ELEUTHERA, BAHAMAS, OFFSHORE -
Episode one of a spectacular two-part series,
where George takes his Mako 284, MARC VI, on a 250 mile,
one-way journey deep into the Bahamas.
Accompanied by friend Harry Vernon III, George
leaves North Miami Beach’s Haulover Inlet and runs to
Cape Eleuthera’s Powell Pointe Marina (www.capeeleuthera.com). In this episode,
George and Harry go on the troll and score with blue
marlin and big dolphin.
This episode showcases how they made the journey,
arranged a deadly small boat trolling spread, and just
what lurks within these fertile, lightly-fished waters.
If offshore trolling is in your blood, this is a can’t
miss show!

CAPE ELEUTHERA, BAHAMAS, REEF FISHING
– Episode two of George’s 250 mile, one way journey
from Miami to Cape Eleuthera’s Powell Pointe Marina (www.capeeleuthera.com) finds the MARC VI anchored on a reef.
George unleashes some of his Bahamas chumming
tactics, and immediately raises shoals of yellowtail
snapper; These snapper are so thick and hungry –
they’re eating right from the chum bag!
George and Harry enjoy some sensationally fast
fishing for yellowtails, Cero mackerel, amberjack, grouper
and horse eye jacks!
And if that wasn’t enough action, they pull
anchor late in the day and head offshore to chase
yellowfin tuna!

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, INSHORE &
OFFSHORE - George
returns to the waters he cut his fishing teeth on –
North Biscayne Bay. Joining him aboard his Shallow-Water MARC is Captain Gavet
Tuttle, a light tackle guide who also grew up fishing
this system. The
team sets forth from Haulover Boat Ramp and for nearby
Dumfounding Bay, where they find birds and game fish
foraging on bait. After catching countless jacks and
ladyfish on top water lures, George and Gavet focus on
tarpon. In
less than an hour, they catch and release four tarpon
before the bite shuts down. It’s still early, so they
run offshore and score a sailfish and kingfish, before
returning to the Bay and casting to big jacks along the
seawalls. And
as if that wasn’t already enough action, George closes
out the trip by scoring a beautiful snook from
underneath a bridge.
This episode showcases the fabulous and
overlooked fishing opportunities in North Biscayne Bay,
and just how easy it is to chase inshore and offshore
game fish in the same day – and aboard a small boat!

BIMINI ON A CONTEST -
George
and his MARC VI are back at the Bimini Sands Resort
& Marina (www.biminisands.com).
This time his special guest angler is Mindie Whitten, a
dental hygienist from Boise, Idaho. Mindie was the
winner of the Columbia Sportswear (www.columbia.com) “Reel
Stories” contest - and a fishing trip with George to
Bimini. Joining Mindie were her sister and
brother-in-law, Shellie and Charles Martin.
An avid freshwater angler, Mindie has never fished in
saltwater prior to this trip. Of course, George
breaks out his A-Game and takes Mindie to some of his
most productive bottom fishing spots. Yellowtail
snapper and Cero mackerel dominate the action.
At
one point, several large sharks appear and try to rob the
MARC VI crew of their catches, some of which pursued their
fish right to the boat!
George’s biggest
fear after introducing Mindie to the great fishing
around Bimini is that she would never view the
freshwater trout and pond fishing back home in Idaho
quite the same.

COASTAL ALABAMA: SIGHT FISHING FOR COBIA
- When the
cobia migrate along the Alabama Gulf Coast (www.orangebeach.com)
between Mid-March and May, it seems everyone displays the
“Gone Fishing” sign.
Cobia fishing here is that huge. In this episode,
George teams up with Captain Ben Fairey, the legendary
Orange Beach, Alabama, skipper who runs the 62-foot
sportfisherman “Necessity”. The tactic is to look for
migrating cobia, sneak up to one and make a well-placed
cast a few feet in front of its snout.
This is teamwork at its finest.
With Ben and crew searching for fish high in the
tower and George positioned in the bow with spin tackle,
the team scores numerous cobia.
If you’re a cobia fanatic, tune in.
You’re about to learn some of the most guarded
secrets of this fishery!

SAN SALVADOR, BAHAMAS, TUNA & DOLPHIN
- George
heads back to the beautiful Bahamas Island of San
Salvador, where during his last and only visit prior to
this trip he scored his personal best wahoo to date – a
143-pound, three-ounce monster!
This time he’s back in late April and targeting
yellowfin tuna and dolphin aboard Captain Trey Rhyne’s
“Low Profile”. The local waters come alive with tuna and big dolphin during
the spring, and George and Trey find plenty of cooperative
fish. Keeping
the fish biting requires the team to troll a mix of
natural baits, pure artificials, and lure/bait combos, and
frequently adjust the size of these baits, their
positioning and trolling speeds;
Once hooked up, it takes muscle and speed to keep
their catches from being devoured by the sharks! The
twist here, ironically, is that while trolling back to the
Riding Rock Marina (www.ridingrock.com) after a successful trip, George scores another gargantuan wahoo
– a fish tipping the scale at 113-pounds, two-ounces!

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA, COBIA
- There’s
one fish in these parts that draws countless anglers out
to play: cobia! And
during the months of April and May, the Broad River plays
host to one of the largest cobia spawns in the U.S.
George and his MARC VI travel to Hilton Head, to
cash in on this fabled run. Leading the way is Captain Jim Clark, a noted Hilton Head
light tackle guide. George
and Jim search out specific rips within the River, and
then anchor and soak baits to catch cobia foraging along
the bottom in the turbulent water. There are a ton of tricks involved in successfully fishing
these rips, and most unfold right in front of your very
eyes, as George and Jim have a blast catching cobia, -
Hilton Head style! George
and crew stayed at The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort

FLORIDA’S SPACE COAST - MONSTER TRIPLE
TAIL - Each May through June, big concentrations of some of the
world’s largest tripletail migrate to the nearshore
waters around Port Canaveral. A structure-oriented fish,
tripletail are drawn to the buoy line at the Port
Canaveral Inlet like paperclips to a magnet. And
that’s precisely where this episode finds George and
Captain Troy Perez!
George and Troy, fishing aboard George’s
Shallow-Water MARC - a Mako 2201 Inshore skiff, ease up
to the buoys and jig for tripletail.
Finding the buoys that hold fish is just one of
the criteria for success, as is knowing how to hook and
muscle a fish away from the structure. And if you’re
scratching your head and thinking - “muscle away a
tripletail?” Rest
assured that these aren’t your typical one- to
three-pound fish; George’s heaviest on this trip
weighed 21 pounds, while Troy’s biggest scaled
22-pounds! George
and crew stayed at the Country Inns & Suites at Port
Canaveral (www.countryinns.com)
